Roulette has a unique allure unlike any other Casino game. The excitement of the Roulette table is synonymous with all the glamour and thrills of Las Vegas Casinos. The game is also extremely simple which only adds to its enticement, making it a firm favourite for both beginners to learn and high rollers to master.
The tools of Roulette consist of a Roulette wheel, a Roulette ball and a Roulette table. The Roulette wheel features 37 or 38 coloured numbers which correspond to those on the table. In order to play, you must first place your bet on a number on the table. The dealer will then spin the Roulette wheel with the Roulette ball inside it. If the ball lands on a number or numbers on the wheel which correspond to those that you have placed on the table then you are a winner.

How Roulette came to be in existence is not known for sure. What is known is that the game originated in France around 300 years ago. Some say that Roulette was invented by a scientist and mathematician named Blaise Pascal whilst others say it was created by a French monk.
Roulette is the French name for 'little wheel' as the games main apparatus is just that. However there are two types of wheel and therefore two types of Roulette. European Roulette wheels have 37 numbers and only one '0' whereas American Roulette has 38 numbers with a '0' and a '00.' This is an incredibly important factor to note as odds and payouts will differ depending on which version you are playing. European Roulette has a statistical edge of 2.7% and American Roulette has an edge of approximately 5.3%. This edge can be halved depending on whether the 'en prison' rule is in play.
The 'en prison' rule applies to bets which pay even money, i.e. Red/Black, Odd/Even, High/Low when the ball lands on '0'. You as the player will then get the choose to surrender half of your wager or play it on the next spin. If you win, your bet is returned to you and if the spin loses your bet is lost.
When playing Roulette the most common types of Roulette bets are as follows. Betting that either the winning number will be on red or black. This bet pays even money 1 to 1.
Secondly betting that the winning number will be either odd or even. This bet also pays even money 1 to 1. Thirdly a low/high bet that is that the number will fall in the range of low numbers from 1-18 or high numbers 19-31. Like the previous two bets this also pays 1 to 1. Finally, the most common type of bet in Roulette is a column bet. That is a bet that any number in a column you selected will come up. This bet pays 2 to 1.
Betting Strategies are thought to be the most effective method of maximising your profit. When playing at online casinos Roulette is an ideal game for high rollers utilising deposit bonuses as it has become so popular over time that a number of different strategies have been established. The most common three strategies are as follows beginning with the Martingale Betting Strategy.

The Martingale Betting Strategy is where the player doubles their bet after every loss. The theory behind this strategy is that the first win would recover all the previous losses along with winning a profit equal to the original bet. Although this strategy is commonly played today and may be lucky for some it ignores the fact that past results don't affect the future so the player could continually lose and go bust.
The second popular strategy that we will examine is the Labouchere System. Similarly to the Martingale System this is also a progressive betting strategy. However, it does not require the player to risk his or her funds as quickly with double ups. Instead, the Labouchere system uses a series of numbers in a line to determine the amount you bet following a win or loss. So a player would add the numbers at the front and end of the line to determine the next's bets size. When you win, you would then cross out the numbers and continue working on the smaller line. If you lose then you would add your previous bets to the end of the line and continue working on the longer line. The theory behind this system is that when the player has won over a third of his bets he/she will win. Unlike the Martingale system The Labouchere system will cause bet size to grow rapidly even where a losing system is broken by wins.
The third and final betting strategy we will examine is the D'Alembert system aka the pyramid system. Similarly to the Martingale system it is mainly applied to even-money outside bets. To play this system after each loss, one unit is added to the next bet and after each win; one unit is subtracted from the next bet. The theory behind this system is that you are more likely to lose following a win and more likely to win following a loss.
There are countless number of betting strategies for Roulette ensuring its continued popularity over time and an established favourite in online casinos.
